Justifying My Choices

In this blog post, I am going to share my thoughts on the changes I made to my website portfolio and why I believe they improve its overall value. When I first created my website, the main goal was to have a personal platform where I could showcase my work and connect with people who share an interest in what I do. Using the tools available on Wix, I built my portfolio, highlighting my skills in art, animation, and video editing.

The portfolio includes different sections such as a gallery to display my work, an "about me" page to introduce myself, a homepage featuring a showreel, a contact page, and even a blog where I share tips on drawing and editing. Choosing a website format for my portfolio made sense to me as it provides an easy-to-navigate platform that can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection and a device.

As I repurposed my website, I made a couple of significant changes to enhance its content. One of the changes I made was adding a photography gallery within the existing gallery page. I felt that this addition would showcase my creative abilities beyond the realm of videos and art. By including a photography section, I aimed to demonstrate my versatility and the range of talents I possess.

I chose to use the photographs that can be seen on my repurposed website for several reasons: The flower photoshoot was something I did as apart of a different unit where I was able to learn and display my strongest skills in photography. Considering that I learnt variety of techniques whilst doing this unit, I believe that it displays my understanding of photography rules and shows my capabilities outside of animation, art and video editing.

In the future, I could consider displaying other forms of my creative work, such as including something similar to a mixed media section. An example of this would be mixing my photographic work with my graphic work and creating outcomes such as magazine front covers and pages. By combining my creative capabilities I could showcase something different and inspiring to viewers that shows how I have my own original style. Although there is already an example of mixed media in the repurposed and original website (my TEMPO magazine front cover), I would like to include other examples of mixed media such as including a short film or video that contains my own images and graphics in the editing.

Another important change I made was updating the art gallery. Since the website had been created a few months ago, some of the artwork featured was outdated and didn't truly reflect my current artistic capabilities. It was essential for me to replace those pieces with newer and more impressive artwork that represents my full potential as an artist. This way, visitors to my portfolio would have a better understanding of my artistic abilities.

To improve the user experience, I also added descriptions to each embedded image in the repurposed version. I believe this addition helps visitors gain a better understanding of the purpose and background of each image. It was a small detail that I had already incorporated in the older version of the website, and I wanted to maintain consistency by providing the same level of accessibility and clarity for the new embedded images.

In conclusion, I'm confident that the repurposed version of my website portfolio effectively incorporates new content that enhances its overall value. By including a photography gallery and updating the art gallery, I aim to showcase my creative strengths and versatility. Additionally, the inclusion of descriptions for each embedded image improves the visitor's experience and provides a better understanding of the artwork. These changes have helped me create a portfolio that accurately represents my skills and abilities while maintaining a user-friendly and engaging platform.
